Roy McBeth 2nd at BC Criterium Championships

Local Ride’s Roy McBeth sprinted his road bike to second place Sunday, July 9 at the B.C. Criterium Cycling Championships in North Vancouver.

The 36-year-old member of the Local Ride Racing Team, barreled around a one-block course for 20 kilometres in the high-speed cycling event. After finishing the Category 4 men’s race, he waited and had another go in the Master Men’s 30-39 category.

“I managed to ride in the lead group of seven for most of the race, made a couple of attacks and won a sprint prime. The earlier race zapped me, though, and I didn’t quite have the legs left for the finish,” said McBeth of his second race.

McBeth is on a roll, after placing second at the Yaletown Grand Prix Criterium in the Master Men’s Category Vancouver on July 1st.

“We’re really excited about what our team members have achieved so far in our first season,” said Local Ride Bike Shop owner, Barry Lyster. “With Roy’s success, we’re looking forward to building an even stronger team in 2007.”

The Local Ride Racing Team currently consists of seven members, all residents of Maple Ridge: Robbie Bitz, Gord Cooper, Steve Devantier, Lyster, McBeth, Shane Reaume and Brad Schauermann
