Sunday Ride
Sunday’s Ride is a go for New Year’s Eve. Come out for your last bike ride of the year!

Join us regularly for a Sunday road ride. Depending on numbers, we’ll try to split into an “A” and “B” group. The “A” Group normally averages around 30kph for 3+ hours, while the “B” Group hovers around 25kph for 2+ hours. Road bikes and fenders (with extenders) are mandatory. Make sure you join us for coffee before we head off:

Where: Starbuck’s at Valley Fair Mall, Maple Ridge
When: Sundays @ 8:30 a.m. for coffee; ETD @ 9:00 a.m.

Saturday Women’s Ride
We’ve had positive feedback on our idea of hosting a women’s group ride on Saturdays. This ride would slightly scale back the hammerfest mentality of the Sunday rides, but still focus on a steady endurance ride of around three hours. We’re aiming to have our first Saturday Women’s Ride on January 13. Road bikes and fenders (with extenders) are mandatory. Call or come by the shop if you have any questions.

Where: Starbuck’s at Valley Fair Mall, Maple Ridge
When: Sundays @ 8:30 a.m. for coffee; ETD @ 9:00 a.m.

December 12th, 2006

December is just racing by and you’re already dreaming about your upcoming vacation, but there’s so much to do before you can sit back with that well-deserved glass of eggnog. At Local Ride Bike Shop, we can help you get there quicker. We have something to suit everyone on your list – like a Suffer-O-Rama Spinervals DVD for Grandma!

Local Ride's Monday Night Spin Sessions are a succes!

Robbie’s Back!
Local Ride’s master welder, Robbie Bitz, is back from his two-week titanium welding course in Ashland, Oregon, and he’s got the skills! Robbie’s big assignment was building a titanium road bike frame, which he passed with flying colours. Stay tuned for a great new Maple Ridge-based handmade bicycle manufacturer in the next couple of years…. Congrats Robbie!

Weekly Specials
Barry is raving about his Specialized cycling glasses, which he tested Specialized opticsyesterday on a long, rainy ride. “They didn’t fog up, they stayed put on my face and I couldn’t even tell they were there because of the AdaptaLight lenses.” Because of his enthusiasm for Specialized eyewear, Barry is discounting all in-stock Specialized glasses this week by 20%.

The second big special of the week is 40% off all in-stock Bell and Giro helmets (excluding Bellistic model). We’re blowing them out to make room for the new Giant headgear.

Featured Product
Giant has introduced a brand new line of helmets for 2007 and we have a 2007 Giant Athena helmetlarge variety in stock to suit all sorts of functions, colour schemes, sizes and budgets. From the slick Ares with carbon accents priced at $149.95; the fashionable Athena women’s model at $129.95; the functional Orion at $79.95, to the quality Talos at $49.95, the new line offers it all. Come check them out in store now.

Spinning!
Last Monday we saw a 100% increase in participants of our weekly spinning sessions and we had a total of seven last night! We kick things off at 6:15 p.m. Bring your bike, trainer, shoes, two towels (one for yourself and one for under your bike) lots of water and $5 for the drop in fee. If you don’t have your own trainer, we’ll have a limited number of rentals available for $5 per session. Workouts generally last between one and two hours.

Want to do some indoor training at home? We offer Spinerval DVD rentals at $5 for two days. We’ll have a bigger selection of training DVD’s available soon.

Sunday Ride
Sunday’s ride was a blast. Despite the wet weather, eight riders met for coffee and rode off into the rain for a jaunt through the backroads of Maple Ridge and Mission. They took to the Thorn Hill area and even veered off-road for a bit of an adrenalin rush as they navigated on wet leaves and melting snow patches with skinny slick tires. It was a rough ride, but only two mechanicals happened – Steve’s fender came loose and Mike bent his derailleur hanger. All in all, a success!

Join us regularly for a Sunday road ride. Depending on numbers, we’ll try to split into an “A” and “B” group. The “A” Group normally averages around 30kph for 3+ hours, while the “B” Group hovers around 25kph for 2+ hours. Road bikes and fenders (with extenders) are highly recommended. Make sure you join us for coffee before we head off:

Where: Starbuck’s at Valley Fair Mall, Lougheed Hwy., Maple Ridge
When: Sundays @ 8:30 a.m. for coffee; ETD @ 9:00 a.m.

Saturday Women’s Ride?
We’re throwing the idea out there. Sandra has suggested a women’s group ride on Saturdays in the New Year, because we know there are a lot of you out there. Saturday’s ride would slightly scale back the hammerfest mentality of the Sunday rides, but still focus on a steady endurance ride of around 3 hours. What do you think? Please e-mail us if you’re interested.

Holiday Hours
Please make note of our holiday hours.
Monday – Thursday 10-6

We’ve become more Specialized

December 4th, 2006

Last week, Specialized Canada’s Jason came in and filled our heads with knowledge on the company’s popular, functional and well thought out Body Geometry line of saddles, shoes, footbeds, grips and gloves. The staff at Local Ride are now Body Geometry certified and will be happy to help you get the right Body Geometry accessories to make your ride more comfortable. Barry was especially excited about the big S’s accessories, such as the stylin’ Toro sunglasses with Adaptalite photochromic lenses.Barry sporting some fancy new Specialized accessories.

Weekly Specials
Sugoi’s “Wired” long-sleeve is a full stretch wicking midweight base layer that is fleeced on the inside for amazing comfort. Its unique functional, integrated electronics pocket is the best way ever to take music on the go. We’ve taken 20% off the regular price of $94.95 this week. They’re available in men’s and women’s. Come try one on today. This versatile piece of clothing is a great gift idea! Have a cyclist on your list? We have lots of other gift ideas, so stop by the shop.

Featured Product
One of the most exciting developments with Specialized is the Body Geometry footbed system. Specialized Body Geometry footbeds are designed to maximize comfort while cycling, decrease the risk of injury and increase performance by offering a near-custom fit at an affordable price. With Specialized’s Arch-o-meter, we can measure your feet, set you up with the correct insoles for your arches, and adjust the canting of your shoes with shims to ensure your knees track straight while pedaling for greater efficiency and comfort. At $69.95, Specialized Body Geometry footbeds are a small price to pay for more comfort and power during cycling. Most Specialized shoes include the standard Body Geometry footbeds, but the after-market upgrades will fit any cycling shoe and come in different arch heights.

Spinning!
Our weekly Monday Night Spin Sessions have started! We kick things off at 6:15 p.m. Bring your bike, trainer, shoes, two towels (one for yourself and one for under your bike) lots of water and $5 for the drop in fee. Want to do some indoor training at home? We offer Spinerval DVD rentals at $5 for two days. We’ll have a bigger selection of training DVD’s available in December.
