Need Help Making Your List?

December 12th, 2007

Do you have a cycling enthusiast on your Christmas list? Or are you a cyclist who’d like to make sure you get exactly what you want under the tree? Come on in, bring your wish lists, and we’ll help you find everything you’re looking for!

Local Ride Racing Team
Robbie
raced in
Seattle on the weekend, for one last ‘cross hurrah this season, and a hurrah it was! He added one more podium spot to our count with a snowy third-place finish in the Masters category, giving Local Ride Racing a total of 25 podium appearances this year! Congrats! For 2008 Local Ride Racing plans to go bigger and better, but that naturally requires a larger budget. We’re in the process of preparing a sponsorship package and proposal that we’ll be bringing to businesses in the community. We’d love to have the local business community involved in our team and we think a partnership with Local Ride Racing would be a benefit to any business. With the huge amount of positive exposure our riders have in the community, be it on the bicycle or in the press, backing the Local Ride Racing is a smart choice.

Spinning Sessions – Wednesdays!
Getting to spin with the gang at Local Ride is your favourite thing about winter. Local Ride’s Spinning Sessions are back and this winter they’ll be happening every Wednesday evening.
Come out for weekly indoor spinning sessions, Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m. Bring your bike, trainer, shoes, two towels (one for yourself and one for under your bike) lots of water and $5 for the drop in fee. If you don’t have your own trainer, we’ll have a limited number of rentals available for $5 per session. Please call ahead to let us know you’re coming, as we have limited space. Workouts are cycling specific training sessions designed by a professional cycling coach. They generally take between one and two hours. *Note: As we are closed December 26, there will not be spinning that evening.

Sunday Ride
Last week’s ride was cancelled once again to snow and ice on the roads. A few brave souls may have been spotted on their bikes, despite the adverse conditions.
This coming Sunday is the third Sunday of the month, which means it’s time for another epic ‘cross ride. Expect up to 80% of the ride to be off-road. Also note:

- There will be no designated “B” Group leader this week, but if you’re a “B” Group rider, come out anyway. Hopefully there will be others like you who want to ride!
- Those of you who’d like to do the ‘cross ride need to be on cyclocross bike with ‘cross tires and carry a minimum of 2 tubes, plus patches. Please wear appropriate clothing and bring adequate nutrition to survive a 3-hour backcountry adventure.
On regular Sundays, we split into three groups as needed: “A” Group for stronger riders looking for a longer, quality workout, “B” Group for more recreational riders aiming to build their fitness and the Women’s Group for women who want to improve their fitness and cycling skills in a fun, supportive and social environment.

- Helmets and road bikes with fenders and fender extenders are mandatory.
- Make sure you have appropriate clothing.
- We’ve slated the third Sunday of every month as a designated ‘cross ride, which means riders should expect up to 80% of the ride being off-road.
- Note that we sometimes get adventurous anyway and stray from paved roads for some cyclocross-style fun.
- Please call or come by the shop for a pre-ride briefing.

Snow Scare

December 5th, 2007

We hope you enjoyed the snowy couple of days that hit us last week, ’cause we sure did! No, the piles of white stuff that the sky unleashed didn’t stop us from getting on our bikes. But if it had snowed any more, we might have been forced to trade the tires for snowshoes. Luckily we have a good supply of those at Local Ride too! We even offer snowshoe rentals so you can try them before you buy. You can rent Tubbs Snowshoes for $15/day or $20 for the weekend.

Local Ride Racing Team
2007 was an extremely successful season for the team, with nearly 200 appearances at over 50 races throughout B.C. and the Pacific Northwest, including 24 podium finishes. The team’s presence added a sense of atmosphere to many events, with 10 team members, trade team tents, a mechanic and a fan club often on site. As a bonus, the team received an honourable mention at the Cycling BC Awards in the “Best Road/Cyclocross Club” category. Local Ride Racing definitely got noticed in 2007.
Sunday Ride
Last Sunday’s ride was officially cancelled due to the presence of quite a lot of snow. That didn’t stop a few die-hards from going out on their own and playing in the white stuff on their two-wheelers.
Join us this Sunday for a great group ride. We plan to split into three groups as needed: “A” Group for stronger riders looking for a longer, quality workout, “B” Group for more recreational riders aiming to build their fitness and the Women’s Group for women who want to improve their fitness and cycling skills in a fun, supportive and social environment.

Okay, now we’ve gone and done it. We officially moved the Women’s Ride to SUNDAY. Ladies, make sure you join us on Sundays. All groups will meet for the rides at the same time and place and then split accordingly. See the Sunday Morning Ride info above for details and recommendations.
