Local Ride Racing was in full force last weekend, with riders competing in the Rat Race on Saturday and the Westside Classic on Sunday. Saturday saw the XCers ripping up the trails in Gibsons and fighting ferry lineups. Ryan was the top Local Ride finisher in 34th overall (good for 6th in his category), in a great sub 3 hour ride on a tough course. Barry and Steve were riding as a team to practice for the upcoming BC Bike Race at the end of the month, and after setting a blistering pace up the climb that at times feels like a face on Everest they were slowed by some unfortunate teething issues with Barry’s new bike. Then Barry had some cramping issues with his new legs. Not to worry though they’ll be ready to take on the competition in a few weeks time. Our brothers at Natural Earth Racing had some very impressive results as well, Annie and David Kvick finished 1st in their categories (David was also 10th overall!), Nels Guloien was 1st in his category, and strong rides were had by Paul, Sue, and the Garrisons.
Sunday saw Local Ride take on the best in BC at the Provincial Championships, although numbers were short for the brick and blue some great efforts were put in. Roy finished 5th in his Masters Race, narrowly missing the podium. Mike was within 2 seconds of being crowned Provincial Champion, he still managed 10th (yes there was less than 2 seconds between first and tenth). Andrew finished his race and we’re still waiting for an official placing, we aren’t sure how they could have missed him, it wasn’t like there was anyone near him at that point! Steve and Carsten were lined up against pro riders and fit right in…for the first few laps at least. Carsten lasted almost 100km and Steve 120km of the 140km course. At the end of the day they both competed in the toughest road race of the year and performed well. The Giant/Whistler/Local Ride Women had a great showing in the women’s pro race, and shared some of their winnings with the Super Support Duo of Dave and Ian, who were the first one’s at the race and made sure the racers had everything they needed for the whole day. A huge THANK YOU to them for their continued efforts.
Next up for Local Ride Racing this Sunday in Abbotsford for Coastal BC Cup #2…Stay tuned!!!
