Local Ride Racing Declares Open Season

March 25th, 2009

Local Ride Bike Shop’s Local Ride Racing Team opened the season with a fourth-place finish by Mike Berkenpas at the Spring Series race in Fort Langley on Sunday. Mike rode away from the pack twice, dangling off the front, like a carrot to the bunch of rabid rabbits that was the rest of the B pack. Six other LRR riders competed in the race, working as a team to ensure that their rider finished at the head of the pack. After Mike’s solo efforts, however, he was unable to win the final sprint, but held on for a very respectable fourth place. Check out Marie’s great photos from the race. The team is back in action this Sunday at Spring Series race #5 in Langley.

March Means Racing’s Here

March 10th, 2009

March is here, which means all the guys and gals at Local Ride are itching to test their legs as the new race season rolls closer. Sure, they’ve been going head-to-head with one another all winter, but now is the time to see how they compare with the rest of the world. Racing begins this Wednesday with the Wentings training races at the Mission Raceway, followed by the season debut of the Spring Series this Sunday in Langley. The Local Ride Racers have been training hard, and they’re fresh off a camp in Victoria, which saw them tear up some new tarmac with their Island affiliates.

March also means that spring is coming up quickly, and with Daylight Savings in effect, there’s actually enough light for leisurely evening spins after work. Bring in your bike for a spring tune-up and gear up with our great selection of comfortable, functional and stylish cycling wear, including brand new cycling products from G.O.R.E., the makers of Gore-Tex.
